At the Restaurant (فِي الْمَطْعَم)

In Part 1, we visited the market. Today, we sit down to eat! Knowing how to order in Arabic doesn't just help you get your food—it shows respect for the local ثَقَافَة (Culture).

1. The Table Basics (أَسَاسِيَّاتُ الْمَائِدَة)

قَائِمَةُ الطَّعَام (Qa'imat at-ta'am) - Menu
Example: أُرِيدُ قَائِمَةَ الطَّعَامِ، لَوْ سَمَحْت.
(I want the menu, please.)
لَذِيذ (Ladhidh) - Delicious
Example: هَذَا الطَّعَامُ لَذِيذٌ جِدًّا!
(This food is very delicious!)
الْحِسَاب (Al-hisab) - The Bill / Check
Example: الْحِسَابَ، مِنْ فَضْلِك.
(The bill, please.)

2. Common Requests (طَلَبَاتٌ شَائِعَة)

English Arabic Example Sentence
Water مَاء زُجَاجَةَ مَاءٍ بَارِدَة، مِنْ فَضْلِك.
Vegetarian نَبَاتِيّ هَلْ عِنْدَكُمْ طَعَامٌ نَبَاتِيٌّ؟
Table طَاوِلَة أُرِيدُ طَاوِلَةً لِشَخْصَيْن.

🥘 Dining Etiquette: Sahtain!

When someone is eating, it is common to say "صَحَّتَيْن" (Sahtain), which literally means "Two healths" (Bon appétit). The person eating will respond with "عَلَى قَلْبِك" (Ala qalbik) – "Upon your heart."
