Media Arabic Series: Part 2

Diplomacy & The World Stage

In Part 1, we mastered "Power Verbs." Today, we look at the Nouns of Diplomacy. These are the words that describe the "Who" and the "What" of global politics.

1. The People of Politics (الشَّخْصِيَّات)

To understand a news report, you must first recognize the titles of the key players:

سَفِير
Safir
Ambassador
وَزِير
Wazir
Minister
رَئِيس
Ra'is
President
مُتَحَدِّث
Mutahaddith
Spokesperson

2. Events & Agreements (الأَحْدَاث)

When these players meet, they participate in these specific events:

Arabic Term English Meaning Usage Note
قِمَّة (Qimma) Summit Literally means "top" or "peak."
مُؤْتَمَر (Mu'tamar) Conference Used for press or academic meetings.
إِتِّفَاقِيَّة (Ittifaqiyya) Treaty / Agreement Formal legal documents.

🌐 Context Booster: The "Diplomatic" Tone

In Media Arabic, you will often hear the phrase "فِي إِطَارِ..." (Fi itari...), which means "In the framework of..." or "As part of...". For example: "The meeting comes in the framework of the Arab Summit."

Can you guess what "Wazir al-Kharijiyya" means?

(Hint: It involves the "outside"). Stay tuned for Part 3: Sports, Society, and Technology in the News!
