Introduction to Ilm al-Mantiq: The Science of Logic in the Islamic Tradition
In the pursuit of knowledge, the ability to reason correctly is just as important as the information we learn. This is where Ilm al-Mantiq (the Science of Logic) becomes essential. Often overlooked by modern students, classical logic remains a cornerstone for anyone wishing to master Usul al-Fiqh (Principles of Jurisprudence) or Kalam (Theology).
What is Ilm al-Mantiq?
The term Mantiq comes from the Arabic word nuṭq, which refers to both speech and the rational power of the human soul. While linguistics governs the tongue, Mantiq governs the mind.

2. At-Tasdiq (Assent or Judgment)
This is when you take two concepts and make a claim about them. For example, "This book is beneficial." Here, you are making a judgment. Tasdiq is the foundation of all logical arguments and proofs.
